Beth Boyd’s Prayer Letter – November 2021
“Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands…” Isaiah 49:16a
Dear Friends and Family in the LORD,
Firstly, thank you for being a vital team member with me in God’s Mission. Whether you have encouraging words, read my yearly prayer letter, pray for and/or support me financially through SIM Canada – you are a blessing and an aid in the prayer ministry God has given me to do. Thank you for your faithfulness. It is my privilege to organize daily chapels (M-W), to pray for our workers and ministries, and partners like you, to pass on prayer requests to staff and our prayer partners, and to encourage others to pray with us for His Glory!
This past year I have been thinking a lot about memory and fading minds…my comfort is this: “Although our minds may grow dim, God never forgets us!”
Is 49: 13-16a “Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! For the Lord has comforted His people and will have compassion on His afflicted. But Zion said, “… my Lord has forgotten me.”
“Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands…” God is speaking of His people Israel, but I believe this applies to all who are His beloved children, born of His Spirit.
For many years, I have been volunteering as a Lay Pastoral Visitor at Buckingham Manor, a Retirement Home. Many of those I have come to know, and love, have had varying degrees of memory loss or dementia. I often tell them – “Even if you forget – God will never forget you!” This usually brings a smile and some comfort for that moment. Now this has come to our family.
In the early days of CV, my dad was hospitalized due to multiple health concerns. While there, the staff began to use the term dementia. This was a surprise to most of us, as we’d thought he had normal memory loss that comes with age. If you have had a similar experience with a loved one, you know that each day can be mix of “that’s Dad alright!” and “Dad, where are you?”
But when we ask Dad to pray, he is immediately full of gratitude and faith that God is doing a great job of looking after us and arranging our days; his prayers, though short, are sweet glimpses of the past. Dad does not remember many people or events, but he still remembers His God!
More than that God remembers Dad!
The Bible speaks of God remembering…Noah, Abraham, Lot, Rachel, Hannah, and His people Israel. We know that God knows all things and so He cannot literally forget anything or anyone but when it says “God remembered” …what does that mean?
“…Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines “remember” as to “bring to mind or think of again,” … It doesn’t necessarily imply one has forgotten the thing one is mindful of, but rather that it is on one’s mind. So, for God to “remember” means for God to have it on His mind… in every instance of God remembering, we see in the Old Testament that it always includes an action” https://www.christianity.com/wiki/god/what-does-it-mean-in-the-bible-that-god-remembered.html
When God turns His mind to someone, He is preparing to act. That is comforting! We have seen the LORD act on behalf of Dad and our family countless times over these last two years. All praises to Him!
When times are rough and difficult, we may feel that God has forgotten us… Is 40: 27 “Why do you say, O, Jacob? And complain, O, Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God”? We all go through hard times. Let’s remember that our ways are never hidden from the LORD, He is always watching us, our circumstances, and He is acting on our behalf even when we can’t see it! Is 40:28-29 “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His under-standing no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
We may not understand what He is doing or why He has allowed something to happen, but He is right there overseeing everything that concerns us (1 Peter 2:25b). God remembers us!
“Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands…”
God the Father …has no physical hands, but this is poetic imagery that means He keeps us in His mind by way of a powerful and permanent reminder in Himself…. God the Son would later come and receive more than the engraving on His own hands for our sakes…”
On the appointed day, the LORD will call my dad to His House. He will see Jesus face-to-face and be given his new body and renewed mind; He will be the perfect man God planned him to be before the foundation of the world. My Dad will be able to say, “You never forgot me, My God and My King” as he bows effortlessly before God, our God, Who engraved us on the palms of His Hands.
Be encouraged, my brothers and sisters in the LORD, whatever we face, we have a faithful God Who always remembers us, who always acts on our behalf for His glory!
With gratitude for you and love in Him,

Beth Boyd's Prayer Letter Dec '20
Beth Boyd’s Mission Update – December 2020 Dear Ones, Firstly, I want to thank you for being part of my support team, whether you give, pray, or encourage, each is a gift to me. Many of you have been on my prayer letter list since the early 2000s when I started with Emmanuel International and later moved to SIM in 2005. That is almost 20 years! I could not have done this without you. Thank you and may the LORD bless you for choosing to share some of your resources and energies on this corner of the LORD’s work. Romans 10:15 - “…as it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Years ago, a young fellow, who later became a missionary, shared this verse with me. As a teen, I disliked my “long understanding” immensely. My feet were often the butt of jokes and it was hard to find shoes that weren’t ugly, which made me feel ugly. When he heard about my attitude, he challenged me that the LORD could use me and my feet in sharing the Good News and that would make them beautiful in God’s eyes. What a difference God’s perspective makes! My thoughts were changed! Last winter, with the threat of CV-19, I was especially concerned about the spiritual well-being of my neighbours. As I prayed, I believe the LORD challenged me to write a Gospel letter and to include a booklet called, “The Case for Christmas” by Lee Strobel. Early spring, after much prayer and some fear, I “Covid-safely” delivered about 30 “Christmas-in-May” packages to those who live around us. The response was and has been mixed. One man, I hadn’t seen in years, said that he would definitely read it! A back-fence neighbour thanked me very much and we had a long talk through the hedge. Another couple have seemingly avoided me since…. I don’t know what the LORD will do with the Message but I am praying that it will be used by His Spirit in their hearts at the right time. Many of you may know that I volunteer at a Retirement Home, well, I did until CV-19. I haven’t gone inside to visit since mid-March. However, I am able to call the Residents to chat, read scripture and pray with them and to send in “Our Daily Bread” devotionals. I walk by the Home occasionally to see if I can see anyone at the windows or outside for a smoke or walk. Today, while masked and more than 10’ away, I had the opportunity to speak to a man who was brought up Catholic. He told me of the latest reports of CV and his concerns. When I offered to pray for him (which he refused), it opened up a short discussion about what God was up to. I shared some Biblical truths but he was not happy with how God is running things and ended our talk. May the Spirit remind him of the salvation that is waiting for him if he turns to God and doesn’t rely on his own goodness. (My feet look beautiful to me now, even if they need orthotics! ) SIM Canada is adapting to CV-19, as we all must: Home staff (me included) mostly work from home, we thank the LORD for computers, internet and Zoom! You would be amazed at the number of SIM workers that have been able to travel in spite of CV-19 while observing all the restrictions and requirements: returning to Canada, returning to the field, and even new Members, having gained their full support, are already on the field as of this fall! As well, God is giving creative ideas as to how to do ministry when the old ways are not allowable. You would also be amazed at the numbers of wonderfully, dedicated people who are applying to SIM to serve (almost 50 this year) despite CV!! As one of our senior workers said, “No matter the insecurity or instability of a situation, God is at Work!” My biggest learning curve has been with Zoom in using it for Chapels. Near the beginning, not knowing that I needed to share the computer sound during a song, I soon discovered that I was singing a solo while everyone else in Chapel watched. Oh well, laughter is good medicine and the LORD loves a cheerful noise!!!! Three days a week, I plan, organize and arrange for different prayer foci or speakers to start off our work days together during our morning Chapel time. As well, a number of our field workers are joining us for Chapel on Wednesday as a way to stay connected during the isolation of CV. It is an encouragement to us all, just as your interest encourages me!

Eph. 5:15-16 (NIV) “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” 1 Cor. 7:29a & 31b (ESV) “This is what I mean, brothers: the appointed time has grown very short…For the present form of this world is passing away.”
Dear Friends and Family,
Firstly, let us together praise God and the Father of our LORD Jesus Christ who chose us before the creation of the world to be rescued from darkness and brought into the Kingdom of Light, the Kingdom of His dear Son, so that we might become the children of God! What a glorious Saviour and salvation.
Secondly, thank you so much for your support of the prayer ministry the LORD gave me at SIM Canada. Because of your prayers, interest and gifts, you help carry me through my various responsibilities. It is a joy to know that you are with me and also making a difference in the lives of many for Christ’s sake!
The verses above remind me that we need to redeem the time as we don’t know when God will call us Home or when the Day of the LORD Jesus will occur and we who are in Christ will meet Him in the air! In the meantime, we are to be busy making disciples of all nations…
About four years ago, I met Mrs. A, an elderly Sikh lady, at a walking club. She regularly invited me to come for a visit, and I found her to be very lonely and very religious. Though her English is limited and my Punjabi nil, we have become friends. I have shared with her about Jesus being the True God and the forgiveness He offers us because of His death on the cross. She says that she believes in her god, gurus, and holy book “too much” (to change), that her god has helped her throughout her troubles. She also believes that the bad things that have come to her in this life are because of her bad karma from past lives and she deserves what she gets. Ohhh, how this makes me grieve! I try to explain to her that there is only one life to live and that Jesus will forgive her for everything if she believes in Him and repents, and He will help her through this life, with the promise of Heaven for her. But she says, “...believes too much, too much!” In the two Sikh homes I have visited, they keep the radio on all the time, because someone is continuously reading though the 1430 pages of The Guru Granth Sahib, their “holy” book. How can they hear our God’s voice? (Notice they call their book a Guru too. Ohhh, Satan’s counterfeit. Our Jesus is the Word!) Unexpectedly, Mrs. A moved! Only because of God’s intervention was I able to make contact with her at her new home. She laughed with delight when she heard my voice; I teared up with relief she was still alive! Pray for Mrs. A that she will come to know the One True God in Jesus Christ!
A few days ago, we saw a fire truck and ambulance at our neighbours’ house! (This is a retired couple whom we have a friendly relationship with, but who have no overt interest in spiritual things.) I immediately started to pray that the LORD would have mercy on them and preserve life, as I didn’t know how serious it was. They wheeled him out… Though I had shared some things about Jesus in the past and even prayed once with the lady, I had never laid the whole gospel out to them. I felt compelled to write them a letter with my testimony.
The very next day, the lady came over to thank us for our help and to let us know that her husband had been discharged home and was under care. The letter was almost ready as it seemed good to send it while their hearts were still dealing with this health scare. Please pray that the words of the letter will come with power and with conviction of the Holy Spirit, to be a balm to their souls and not a burden.
You may remember that I volunteer at a Seniors’ Home, but during Covid, visits were very sporadic! Thankfully, it has become more regular again; sadly the changeover in Residents during that time has been remarkable – some moved out for more care, but quite a few died! I often say the Residents are on the edge of eternity, but actually we all are as none of us know the day of our earthly death.
One of the men, “T” is well-educated, a professed atheist, but allows me to pray for him – we have great conversations about faith, religion and the LORD. He is someone that I can “talk turkey” with! And yet, his years of education, literature, philosophy, and his own history of surviving against the odds, have embedded his thinking so that he seems to be looking for what he can do rather than accepting what the LORD Jesus has already done for him and the mercy He has shown “T” all his life! Will you pray that every thought that sets itself up against the LORD will be dismantled and “T” won’t miss receiving the Messiah?
Recently, I was at physio (that is another story) as one of the assistants was helping me with exercises. I asked him what his plans were to celebrate the New Years. He said that he would probably get drunk with his on-line friends as they played a computer game together. My heart broke for this young man, who describes himself as an introvert. He says that becoming drunk helps him not to care about what people think about him. As he shared this, I tried to ask questions to understand more. While he left me for 5 minutes with an ice pack and an electrical gizmo, I called out to the LORD, what can I do for this young man to point him to You? That morning, I had refilled my purse with tracts asking the LORD which ones to take. One of them was a Chick Publication cartoon tract, not one I normally give out as they tend to be very blunt! When I considered this young man who was probably playing computer games which are not “family-friendly”, I thought perhaps this was the one for him! He took it! LORD, I pray that he was not just being polite but that he will read it and that You will give Him Light, Forgiveness, Life, and Purpose, in Your Son Jesus! Save him from Satan’s lies and wasting his life!
All around us are people who are living and dying without Christ! That should shock us to action as much as it saddens us to realize this grim truth! The days are short, yes, and we can see evil becoming more and more obvious around us; let’s redeem the time and shine as stars in the universe as we hold out the Word of Life to those walking in darkness.
Thank you again for your support and encouragement for me! If you have something I can pray about for you, please email me at beth.boyd@sim.org Or if at any time, you would like to be removed from my prayer letter list, you can use the same email and I will certainly understand.
Let us shine like stars in the universe as we hold forth the Word of Life!
Love in Him,

White-wash or Heart Transplant? - September 2023
Dear Family at Springvale,
My husband had a few outdoor painting projects for me – surfaces that were peeling, faded, cracked, or had exposed wood. Painting is very satisfying since many defects can be hidden with a fresh coat. Everything looks so much better afterward, for a while…
As I was working, trying to keep paint from going where it shouldn’t, I thought about Jesus’ condemnation of the Pharisees and their “white washing” practices. They were trying to look spiritual and admirable without doing anything to fix the grunge in their hearts – their insides were “full of dead men’s bones”! Matt 23:27 White washing is temporary, it does nothing to “fix the flaws” God sees.
But God says: Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow…” 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” God gives a total heart transplant: flesh for stone, purity for desperately wicked. He doesn’t cover our sins with whitewash, He takes them as far as the east is from the west – distance without end! By His Spirit, He gives us a permanent fresh start!
Not only that, but Jesus is in the process of fixing/healing our souls from every dent, faded surface, scratch, tear, wound, and loss. “He restores my soul” Psalm 23:3a “Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the Day of Jesus Christ.” Phil 1:6 AND just ahead in Paradise is the EVER-lasting new body which will never age, fail, or die. We shall be like Him!
God goes to the heart of our condition: sin, guilt, and death – He forgives us because of the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross and promises us eternal life because of Jesus’ resurrection three days later. Our faith in Jesus grants us all the above and more! What great News – what an indescribable Salvation!
As I get older, my sins become more obvious in light of God’s Holiness but my gratitude for His forgiveness for my sins (past, present and future) grows greater! Time goes faster too, “Redeem the time”, the Bible says, “for the days are evil…” Eph. 5:16 We have the privilege and responsibility of sharing this Good News with those around us – we need to make the most of the time because the “LORD’s coming is soon” James 5:8, maybe today! We need to keep our hearts dependent on the Spirit to help us look around and speak up to the people we encounter. He is generous with opportunities:
A few weeks ago, it was necessary to go to my parents’ bank to sign some forms. The young lady who served me was from India. In just a few minutes, we were sharing stories about our moms, their health challenges, and my connection with her homeland because of one of our beloved sons-in-law is of Indian heritage. This young woman, having only been in Canada for 4 years, began to entrust me with several of her heartaches. Soon I felt led to ask her if I could pray for her in the Name of Jesus. She welcomed it. I offered her a Gospel tract about Jesus for I knew that I could not take up much more of her time and yet I wanted to leave something so that she could learn that Jesus is unique among the “gods” – there is no god but Him. That too she received happily. As I was leaving, the Spirit seemed to remind me of another hint that she had given about an unspoken pain. Gently, I asked, and she acknowledged that as well. I pray again for her in the name of our Heavenly Father (her father had died some time ago) and asked on her behalf, that God the Father would grant the desire of her heart for His Glory and her good! Pray for S…
A couple of days later, I was walking with a friend near her home when we passed another young lady sitting under a Windshield Repair tent, in a Canadian Tire parking lot, waiting for customers. She looked lonely and somewhat bored. My heart went out to her, I wanted to share Jesus with her, but the timing did not seem right. A short while later when I was leaving my friend’s apartment complex, I realized that I would be driving by that young lady again – I felt that the LORD was tugging on my heart to follow through with the earlier prompting. She was still there, sitting alone, under the tent.
I parked nearby and approached her, apologizing that I didn’t come to give her any business but to offer her Words of Life from the Bible. This young woman told me that she had no faith!!!! Can you imagine being 20ish and not believing there is a God Who exists and Who loves you and … Incredible and so, so tragic! Hers was a Biblical name, but she knew nothing about that OT character. She was willing to receive the tract that I held out to her. I asked her if she had a Bible, again she said “No”. I encouraged her to check out the Gospels on-line to learn about the life of Christ. Later, while filling the car up with gas, the LORD reminded me that I had a Gospel of John in my purse. So back I went. And just as a real customer hopped out of his vehicle, I was able to offer it and challenged her to read about Jesus, the Son of God. R… seemed grateful to receive a hard copy despite this digital age! Pray for R…!
We did buy a little paint this summer J … while waiting for a can to be shaken, I spent time talking with the clerk about his homeland … As I was leaving the shop, I sensed the LORD wanted me to give the young man a tract, but I argued with the LORD. I am in ratty paint clothes, not fitting for a representative of the King of kings, I look like a crazy older woman. I wanted to go home and get started…, I, I…, OK Lord, I’ll go back! The clerk looked concerned when I returned to his counter, but I assured him that everything was fine. In fact, I had been impressed that God wanted him to have this booklet about Jesus Christ – Words of LIFE from the Bible. Would he take it? Yes, he would! Praise God! Just then a customer came who needed him! Sometimes, you only have seconds to pass on the Gospel to people you may never see again, but the Spirit can use the briefest of moments to make an impact with His Word!
I don’t know what the LORD will do with these seeds, these gospel tracts, or where will they fall: on a pathway, in rocky ground, into the weed patch, or on good soil. God is the one who does the heart transplanting; mine is to sow the seed and pray. Once, somebody dared to tell you and me the Good News so that God could transplant our hearts and we no longer need to try to make ourselves look good with “white wash”. Let’s pray to be attentive to the Spirit’s nudges and bold in the sharing ‘cause the Harvest is ready!
Thank you so much for supporting me in the prayer ministry at SIM Canada – what a privilege to serve the workers and partners of SIM in prayer. Whether you read my annual letter, encourage me, pray for me, ask “how is the ministry going?”, or give to my support, I appreciate you and thank God for you. beth.boyd@sim.org
