PARTNERS INTERNATIONAL CANADAKamati Ekonia’s journey took him from rural Namibia to Canada and back to Namibia. Along the way he’s made a remarkable impact on people. Today Kamati is inspiring and equipping vulnerable youth in Namibia to transform the shanty towns that surround Windhoek. Kamati wants to empower at-risk youth who live in these slums to reach for the stars and give back to their communities. Kamati started “Dream Namibian Child”‘ ministry after returning from Canada in 2010. Sometimes we just call it “Kamati’s Kids”. His training at Heritage Bible College and experience at Muskoka Woods provided the tools he needed to lead a ministry with a vision to touch thousands of lives. Kamati is married to Lia and they have one son, Nafimane. More about the ministry: 50% of Windhoek’s population live in shanty towns surrounding the city. Those living on the edges of society, struggle with poverty and lack of opportunity. Plenty of vices are available to thousands of youth living in the settlements. They are in need of someone to help them find purpose and realize a better future. Kamati and his team serve vulnerable children and youth living in the shanty-towns. Many are victims of abuse and struggle with addictive substances. Kamati and team provide programs that support the spiritual, physical, social, and emotional development of youth. The ministry runs after-school programs which gives tutoring, mentoring, and life-skills through sport. They also send kids to school with backpacks and school supplies. This ministry is on its way to turning the shanty-towns of Windhoek into vibrant communities filled with hope. Kamati is a missionary of Partners International Canada.
